I was born in Nogales, on the USA side and I have lived there most of my life. I have shown my work in cities across the U. S. and in Mexico. I have often found people telling me that they understand nothing of art. I don't think they realize that knowledge of art is not as important as an openness to it, because without a recipient there is no art. Through pictures, I reach for a moment of coexistent contemplation with an observer to create more of my work. Because it is in the diffusion of our most reticent ideas where we are most free.

PRESENTLY

2002-2004 I am an active in replenishing the wells of the process by being dedicatedly working closer with people in portraiture painting and building design.

CENICERO

1996-1999 I am an active member of the artist group called TALLER CENICERO, four painters living and working on both sides of the border in Nogales. Each member took his own direction in 2000.

NAHUAL

1995-1997 I first participated in this cultural, bilingual, bimonthly publication as a writer, later on the editorial board. Today I help out on the various aspects hoping to continue to bring the magazine to print.

GALERIA DE PASO

1995-1996 I participated member of this artist collective gallery in Nogales, Sonora, Mex. The project's principle goal was to exhibit the work of local artists and had the participation many local patrons. We organized art exhibitions, poetry readings and music recitals.

LITERARY GROUP

1993-1995 I initiated and participated in an informal literary group of four local writers. We met once a week to critique eachother’s work and share our sources for the possibility of getting published. During this period I published a book of poetry, Opus On All Eres / Ser Ella No Supo, 1993.

PRIOR TO 1993

I studied and wandered.

O N G L A S S

My paintings on glass are done with aerosol paint applied to the piece of broken glass, working backwards the image is created opposite the viewing side of the glass. The work is fast-moving and very spontaneous. The content is always inspired by the turbulence of the double personality border town.

O N C A N V A S

I paint as I do from living on the border. There is a richness in the diversity of the people who travel through, and of those who stay to live here, that would not exist if the wall did not exist. The diversity of the cultures of Mexico mixed with the popular drives of the U.S. blurs the lines marking accepted social norms. The reality is rarely clear on a border. My work is constantly influenced by this fact. Borders create a friction from the different cultures coexisting and this friction, this heat, forges many hidden realities. My work is constantly influenced by life on the border, and it is a confusing life, making my paintings at times spontaneous, at times very measured and thought out, and always alluding to a subterranean reality.
